EARTH (Emanates A Resonance That Heals)

In Wildness Is the Preservation of the World
— Henry David Thoreau

Since humans first set foot on this planet and for the majority of our existence walking upon it, we have lived in direct connection with the Earth. Our ancestors enjoyed healthy communication with the elements of Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Ether, the spirit realm. They were intuitively aware that the ground beneath their bare feet or moccasin shoes was supporting them in more ways than one. Wildness was the home where they walked all kinds of talk, thrived and laid their bodies back into the land base cycle of life when they transpired. Little did we domesticated humans know how far reaching the implications would prove to be detrimental to our health by excluding ourselves from the dynamic biological continuum of an electromagnetic ecosystem. Could it be, that rubber soled shoes have metaphorically turned the human soul into rubber? Were the Beatles hip to this too, with their 1965 album "Rubber Soul"?

When we attune to the earth’s electric potential, we soak up negatively-charged electrons that neutralize free radicals in our bodies. Many of Earthing’s benefits, such as chronic pain relief and faster wound recovery, may simply result from reduction of free radical activity and inflammation, which frees up the immune system to perform other reparations. Other antioxidant benefits such as lowered blood pressure and better circulation may also result from the blood thinning effect of grounding. While reduced inflammation may also explain improved sleep and lessened menstrual symptoms, these benefits may also be due to Earthing’s favorable effect on the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which leads to greater overall hormonal balance.

American inventor Charles Goodyear changed everything in 1853 when he patented the process of "vulcanizing" rubber. The first rubber heel for shoes was patented in 1899 by Irish-American Humphrey O'Sullivan. These first products were referred to as "plimsolls". They were further developed and then called sneakers because they were so quiet, allowing one to sneak up on another. All but gone were the good old days of organically leather bound foot stomping around.

The problem with this is two fold. First, wearing rubber soled shoes insulates us from the Earths electromagnetic field and cuts us off from its healing frequencies. Second, they force our feet into an unnatural shape which they weren't designed for and that causes chain reaction structural mutations all the way up our bodies. However, here's one saving grace in modern footwear, with regard to the second problem of rubber soled shoes: Vibram Fivefingers. These digit independent shoes allow the feet to maintain their dexterity and original shape, without compromising tactile sensory feedback from ambulation across any terrain. Another innovative invention is introduced by "Earthing". This company has developed a sandal that has an attachment embedded in the sole which grounds us to the Earth energy with every step on the outside environment.

The Earth is alive and pulsating with electromagnetic energy that can be measured like a heart beat. The approximate frequency is 7.83 Hz. It's called the "Schumann Resonance" and is named after its primary discoverer, German atmospheric physicist Winfried Otto Schumann, who predicted it mathematically in 1952. I find it synchronistic that Schumann discovered this because it just happens to match the alpha range of human brain waves and our hearts are also closely attuned to this frequency. It sounds remarkably close to "human resonance", so it's an intuitive connection that humans should be plugging in frequently to this power source to activate our full potential.

Although the existence of the Schumann Resonance is an established scientific fact, there are very few scientists who are aware of the importance of this frequency as a "tuning fork for Life". It is not merely a phenomenon caused by lightning in the atmosphere, but a very important electromagnetic standing wave, acting as background frequency and influencing biological oscillators within the mammalian brain.

The highly esteemed Walt Whitman (1819 - 1892), sung his praises in the poetic "I Sing the Body Electric". Nikola Tesla, (1856 - 1943) the electrifying wizard, produced such powerful electrical wave tensions that could penetrate the earth without resistance and thereby Tesla found that the Earth resonated at a certain frequency. Then in 1985, orthopedic surgeon and researcher in electro-physiology/electro-medicine Robert Otto Becker published a groundbreaking book about all this in "The Body Electric: Electromagnetism And The Foundation Of Life".

For decades now, brilliant minds have been awakening to the startling realization that humans must reconnect with the Earths energy field in order to maintain optimal health and function at our best. Specifically, this means touching any part of our exposed bare skin to the surface of the Earth or submersion in water. The human body is conductive of electricity and when we come into contact with the natural elements - Earth and Water, we complete a circuit, recharge our batteries and calibrate our circadian rhythms.

Clint Ober began his career as a cable tv guy in the early 60's. In 1973 he had an epiphany: to fulfill his true mission in life and help heal the world, he had to "become an opposite charge". The Earth was telling him that "we humans have a bio-electrical connection with the Earth, one that with simple ground contact, neutralizes the charge in the body and naturally protects the nervous system and the endogenous fields of the body from extraneous electrical interference." By 2010, he was coauthor to the revolutionary book "Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever?"

Along with experts Stephen Sinatra and Martin Zucker, Clint Ober outlines personal experiences of recovery from illness as well as the latest scientific data to back up how and why grounding to the Earth ameliorates discomfort and disease. When I had the pleasure to meet Ober in late 2010, just after his book came out, I had already been researching this subject for months and experimenting with walking and sleeping in direct skin contact with the Earth. Passion and positive results were motivating enough for me and when he showed me the comparison read outs in real time on the computer from his voltmeter, it was the "icing on the cake".

The pictures above show a person’s red blood cells before and after 2 hours of grounding. The cells below clearly demonstrate increased zeta potential and decreased blood viscosity. Such significant changes in blood after only 2 hours of grounding indicates that walking barefoot on the earth’s surface for at least 2 hours a day (alternately, using an Earthing device) may protect against cardiovascular events like heart attacks or strokes. It follows, that sleeping at night while grounded provides the greatest opportunity for blood thinning effects.

Henceforth, I have been predominantly grounded everyday as I sleep, work and walk. The effects are instantaneous and accumulative, the more one grounds, the better one feels. It's easier now more than ever, thanks to the accessibility of Clint Ober's technological advancements. Modern domesticated civilization has been an obstacle for most people, preventing them from coming into contact with the natural environment as part of an everyday lifestyle. With the combined knowledge of ancient wisdom, modern science and practical technology, there's simply no more excuse for why we can't be connected with the Earth most of the time.

Most people are insulated from the Earths electrical impulses by shoes, cars and buildings. Clint Ober provides a remedy for these situations through his patented grounding equipment. Most buildings are fixed with grounding rods stuck into the Earth outside them, attach to metal pipes running inside them and end in the third prong of outlets on the walls. His products connect there and when we touch our skin to any of his pads or sheets, the circuit is complete and we become one with the Earth. It's best to do this while resting in bed, because we're immobilized and in healing mode, but it can be done while we're working at home or the office. Plus, pet animals benefit from grounding and there's specially designed beds for them too.

I only drink wild harvested living spring water and have a five gallon container on top of a ceramic dispenser. In order to re-create its subterranean habitat I keep it covered from light and have a thin copper wire immersed in it and running to the third prong of the nearest wall outlet. That way, the water I drink (and becomes my blood) stays freshly charged. A copper wire can also be imbedded into house plants, plugged into the nearest wall outlets third prong, or out the nearest window and right into the Earth. If you have a hot hub at your house, you can increase the therapeutic value by running a copper wire from the water, over the edge and into the surrounding ground.

The only times when most people are grounded to the Earth is when they take a shower or wash dishes. This is because the Earth electricity is conducted through the metal pipes that the water flows through and when it contacts the bodies skin, the circuit is completed.

The Earth acts as a sink for us to discharge positively accumulated static electricity, while at the same time, transfers negatively charged anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory healing particles. Moreover, grounding with the Earth shields us from electro-smog and EMF's that insidiously pass through the air and wreak havoc on our circadian rhythms, immune systems, nervous systems and brain functions. As Clint Ober clearly showed me with his high tech gadgets, the damage from cell phone exposure is drastically reduced by being grounded.

I envision a world that is a seamless blending of ancient wisdom and sophisticated technology. One that is founded on alternatively clean free energy and available unconditionally for everyone to access. An operating system that harmonizes with the complex biological network of the whole living community and mutually benefits the polarized process of growth and decay. Humans ought to be able to connect with our terrestrial land base and aquatic reservoirs with an advanced state of hyper communication that enables all beings to thrive.

There's no limit to the possibilities of societal restructuring so that it could favor the health of the Earth and its inhabitants:

  • Schools can be easily equipped to allow students to be grounded while the study. How much more would their capacity for concentrating and learning be augmented?
  • Working offices could be better places with less stress if only they would harness the healing power of the Earth and bring it up all the way to the highest floors.
  • Massage therapists and any other health practitioners can easily place a grounding pad on their tables so that their clients could be also be receiving the Earths healing energy, while simultaneously sending undesirable toxic loads into the Earth for dilution, rather than transferring them into the person in service.
  • Can you imagine practicing on grounded yoga mats for a deeper experience?
  • Mothers giving birth would greatly benefit from being grounded during the whole pregnancy and the child would surely reap the benefits as well.
  • Hospital beds can easily be set up properly so that patients would then be connected to the Earth. How much quicker would their process of recovery then be expedited?
  • How much more easy, enjoyable and peaceful would it be if someone who was dying of natural causes was in touch with the Earth, along with their loved ones?
  • Instead of contributing to deforesting and burying our dead bodies inside wooden caskets, cutting off the organic process of decomposition, wouldn't it be better to just simply lay them down to rest and recycle back into the Earth from which we came and should return to enrich?

I have always looked upon decay as being just as wonderful and rich an expression of life as growth.
— Henry Miller

Collectively as a species, if we humans continue down the perilous path of fragilely domesticated industrial civilization and further ostracize ourselves from the natural environment, in favor of synthetic trappings and artificial convenience, the consequences could be disastrous. Alternatively, if we make a return to nature and embrace the Earth as an animated, breathing, life support system and respectfully cherish it, we will receive all its boundless gifts and begin a process of regeneration and renewal. The Earth deserves this love, as do we and our future generations, as far into the future as we care to imagine.

Reconnect with the Earth as a part of a holistically integrated lifestyle. Tune into the constant news feed coming up from the ground right below your feet. Tap into your unlimited potential and unleash your innate genius. Rejuvenate your DNA and reverse any domesticated complacency through interactively re-wilding with the elements.

It is only when we are aware of the earth and of the earth as poetry that we truly live. Ages and people which sever the earth from the poetic spirit, or do not care, or stop their ears with knowledge as with dust, find their veins grown hollow and their hearts an emptiness echoing to questioning...True humanity is no inherent right but an achievement; and only through the earth may we be as one with all who have been and all who are yet to be, sharers and partakers of the mystery of living, reaching to the full of human peace and the full of human joy.
