FV2V #27 - VICTOR WOOTEN | SIZZLE SESSION

If the world were to follow you today, where would you lead them?
— Victor Wooten

This is a spontaneous and short episode where I share a sizzle session for the next edition for my show. It’s a teaser trailer for the conversation I had with the one and only legend, Mr Victor Wooten.

If you're a music lover, you're probably hip to him. He’s an intriguing cat. If there's such a thing as magic in the universe, it flows through him, and his basses. The way he plays, sings and performs is like Bruce Lee - IT just flows through him. When it comes to Victor, he's a musician, magician, a bass player, and natural philosopher. He’s a man of magnificence, par excellence.

So, I was walking down the street of Telluride and there's this old brick building called the Opera House, and it's a really beautiful building, and so I saw this poster for Victor Wooten’s band that was gonna be playing here, and I was pretty stoked. One of the first things that went through my heart and mind was sort of like a vision of having him on this podcast. I really believed it was possible, and I was so full of faith.

I believe that life is music. Everything that we can see and feel and talk about - and do - is made up of music. There's a magic about that, and Victor is the kind of person who is 100% in sync with me on this, and he's an expression of that. He’s living it and I respect and admire him for everything he's done. I'm so grateful for him to be alive and doing what he's doing and sharing his message with the world.

His message is in alignment with my mission - raising the bar for humanity and recreating paradise for the whole life community. He’s all about helping to heal the world and so I support him in that.

I also wanted to get this on to the recording of this episode for sort of proof, because that's how faithful I am and believing in myself with this podcast show. It’s also like a playful way for me to document my process. In the full spectrum that I've been going through, it's something like - from amateur to pro.

This prediction was recorded on August 8th, and was a part of episode 23 Sophisticated Summer Vibes & All That Jazz. It was released on August 10th. He performed here on August 12th. Our conversation happened on the 13th.

One of the things that I think is cool to do on this is document my journey, and in a way, I can prove the distance that I've gone on this journey; where I've been, what I'm going through, and then eventually where I'm at, because I envision myself being successful and fulfilled in many ways. I’m eagerly anticipating documenting the process, envisioning where I'll be, believing in myself, behaving that way, and then becoming.

Another main reason why I'm doing this and saying this and sharing it with you is to prove that you can do it as well. We all can do great things, and we all have sort of a destiny or calling, if we can find our own unique way to tap in to that source, feel what's in our heart listen to what's in our minds when we're quiet. So we need to find that stillness inside of us and outside of us, empower ourselves to say no to all the weapons of mass distraction, and finally, focus on what's important.

A BRIEF BIO

Victor Wooten was born on September 11, 1964. He was the youngest of five boys, who were master musicians, and he began learning to play music at age two. Now a five-time Grammy winner, he hit the worldwide scene in 1990 as a founding member of the super-group Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Continuing to blaze a musical trail with the band, Victor has also become widely known for his own Grammy nominated solo recordings and tours.

He is a loving husband and father of four, a skilled naturalist and teacher, a published author, a magician and acrobat, and has won every major award given to a bass guitarist including being voted Bassist of the Year in Bass Player Magazine three times (the only person to win it more than once.) In 2011, Rolling Stone Magazine voted Victor one of the Top Ten Bassist of ALL TIME.

Victor has been heralded as "the Michael Jordan of the bass" and "one of the most fearless musicians on the planet."

Musicians wanting to learn Victor's unique style and elusive techniques began seeking him out for lessons and seminars at music stores and schools around the world. These workshops became the training ground that lead to the formation of his acclaimed Bass/Nature Camp in 2000, which eventually expanded into Victor Wooten's Center for Music and Nature.

"We give students the opportunity to completely let go and be themselves while congregating in a peaceful non-competitive manner on an equal playing ground with each other and their instructors. We've found this to be the best environment for learning."

Victor is the author of “The Music Lesson-A Spiritual Search for Growth Through Music”, which is a self-published novel about Life and Music. The book is considered by many to be a "must-read" for musicians world-wide. Offering an intriguing story full of anecdotes and mysticism, The Music Lesson has helped free the minds of musicians worldwide. Now translated into multiple languages, The Music Lesson is currently used as required reading and part of curriculums in study groups, schools, and universities including the prestigious Berklee College of Music and Stanford.

His respected reputation as a teacher and speaker/lecturer on the subjects of both Music and Nature have garnered invitations for him to speak and teach at schools, universities, classes and spiritual centers around the world.

Victor also formed his own record label called Vix Records, Wooten's self-proclaimed "Label of Love" Wooten is always continuing to grow and is always willing to share his gifts with all who desire to learn. At the time of this recording, he’s about to release the sequel to The Music Lesson, and has at least three more books planned after this.
